is a large open space dedicated to walking, playing, dog walking, jogging and getting fit. Located in Murrumbeena with plenty of carpark space, is a great location to keep up with your exercise or to let the kids have a play.

Around the vicinity of the oval is a long walking track (1,200metres to be exact), which is very popular among the locals. I have enjoyed many walks around the oval during the warmer weather as it allows me to keep fit.

For those wanting a more relaxed outing at the reserve, they have a rotunda, BBQ facilities and tables with seating to make catching up with friends easy and affordable as you can bring your own food.
The kids will love the little playground close by with swings, slide, seesaw and monkey bars to keep them busy.

I like the fact that dogs are allowed off-leash within the reserve on the oval only. It is quite a large oval so you don't need to worry about too many dogs being there at once. In the past, we have taken our uncle's dog to Duncan Mackinnon and he loves the open space and exercise. Dogs need to be on a leash on the walking track, playground and car park areas.

Right next to the reserve is a new state of the art pavilion which hosts sporting games. It is very popular among schools and sporting teams to play here.



Overall, I find the to be an excellent spot for walking and taking the kids to for some exercise and a play.

The best time to go is during the daylight savings months (October-March) as many people are out and about. You feel a real sense of community down there, everyone is polite and courteous and it's such a great place to keep up with your fitness goals.

So grab a football, cricket gear, skipping rope, soccer ball, and your running shoes and get down to Duncan McKinnon Reserve to be active and healthy.
