While its name may suggest a menu focused on dumplings, along Hindley Street actually offers a wide range of Asian dishes. The dishes offered range from those suited to a single diner to larger main-sized dishes that you would expect to see at larger Asian restaurants.
Though mentioned as a bento box, their Pork Katsu Bento Box was presented in a style resembling a rice bowl dish during our visit. The crumbed pork cutlet was cooked just right and the crumb coating set off the flesh nicely. The curry sauce we chose was mild enough for those not used to spicy foods to enjoy. A small serving of salad added some freshness. A nice touch to the dish was the potato tater tots that were drizzled with some Japanese mayonnaise.
Instead of the usual minced chicken, their Chicken Larb Salad featured larger chunks of chicken. The inclusion of mint among the fresh greens imparted a refreshing flavour and the toasted rice powder added a bit of a chewy texture. Sufficient Thai dressing gave the dish a typical Thai flavour and ensured the dish was not too dry.
A recent addition to their menu, the Fish with Pickled Mustard Greens Soup had tender fish and there were enough pickled mustard greens to give the dish its characteristic tangy taste. Extra texture was provided by bean sprouts and fried bean curd skin, and chilli imparted a bit of heat to the dish.
The filling of the Fried Pork Dumplings was juicy and the skin had a bit of crispiness without being too tough. A drizzling of dumpling sauce over the dumplings added a savoury flavour. For those that desire a bit of heat, chilli sauce is available at each table.
The décor of the restaurant gave it a casual feel. Its location makes it convenient for students and staff at University of South Australia to drop by for a good range of delicious Asian dishes.
