Dumpling Den is a new dumpling restaurant and take away at Event Cinemas on George Street. This establishment opened on the 17th of December 2013. Movie goers can now choose from either sushi or dumplings; or something else if some Asian fusion is not for them.
From the premium range ($2.50 each) I chose one Wagyu Beef, and one Seaweed Scallop dumpling. From the seafood range ($1.80 each) I chose one Prawn and Leek dumpling, and one Fish and Lemongrass dumpling.
Focus on the right hand side: the sweet dumplings ordered
Who can resist temptation? Yes, I had to order some sweets. I was going to come back later and order them, yet it felt it was more convenient at the time to order everything in one go. Out of the sweets (three for $6) I ordered one Nutella Dumpling; one Apple and Cinnamon dumpling, and one Lychee and Coconut Cream dumpling. It was about 10 minutes after taking my order that they advised me that they had run out of the Nutella dumplings. I wondered if I'd like a Lemon Pie one instead. Sure. The Lemon Pie one sounded divine, so I went for that in lieu of the Nutella. This was a decision well made.

Despite not being overly busy, it took a little longer than expected to have my dumplings ready. They were beautifully presented on one massive black plate. It would have been superb to have received some real (as opposed to paper) chopsticks to enjoy them with. I also received a small bowl of some special sauce, of which was quite tangy.
Although all of these dumplings filled the spot, and despite being given one extra Wagyu Beef dumpling; I felt that their prices were a little too high in comparison to the actual value you're receiving.
The sweet overpowered the savoury in terms of flavour, but I loved the wholemeal coating on the gyoza style Wagyu Beef dumplings. Otherwise the savoury flavours were quite subtle, except for the lemongrass. With the sweets, the fillings were divine and the only let down was the pastry. The texture of the pastry for the sweets was like glue.
The winning feature would be the friendly staff. All other elements of the service received at Dumpling Den were quite ordinary. If you love your dumplings, this establishment is worth a visit - yet nothing to rave about unfortunately. There is better value elsewhere in Sydney.
