Picture yourself sitting eating dumplings from along the ancient silk road, be they crisply fried or softly steamed. They will have different fillings and flavours from each culture around the world. Imagine you have travelled all the way from China to Italy, eating your way through onigiri to arancini. Dumplings, although more often seen in Asian food, are also made in many other countries - I actually make them to a recipe that I got from my German mother.
These are SO, SO delicious - worth the effort!
You can see the recipe for these scrumptious Marrilen Knodel that I make regularly during the apricot season (NOW!) here.
I also make these dumplings for chicken soup, and they are also delicious.
Dumplings for chicken soup
This year, the event will move to Bowen Hills and this was done so that there could be more stalls and even more dumplings than previously. On the day, you will be able to take home more than merely a full tummy. There will be workshops all day and these will focus on food on the move.
You could learn how to make a basic "potsticker dumpling" and what sauces will make your dumpling the tastiest and best around. This workshop will be taken by the "dumpling diva the saucy wench" and you will learn what sauces go best with which dumplings and why. You will learn the art of making xiao long bao, which is the steamy soup dumpling that even "seduced an emperor."
Turn your lunches into making a scene with Kawaii Bento - lunchboxes that are so good that your children and friends will not be able to resist them! And that's not all - you can learn how to print your own furushiki, a Japanese lunch bag as well as how to fold it.
Have you ever been interested in the art of origami? You can now learn how to apply this to boxes and envelopes.
In order to get your dumpling passport, you will need to register on Eventbrite . The more destinations you taste and eat, the more chances you have of winning your own $500 value dumpling day party. This is where a dumpling diva will come to your home and show you and your friends exactly how to make different dumplings and this will be for a whole day of eating as well.
The program will be as follows:
12:00 noon to 4.00 pm - Origami boxes and wishes
12:15 pm to 1:15 pm - Potsticker dumplings and sauces that sing workshop
