Hence its name, Dulcet Cakes & Sweets is nothing short of sweet-sounding, euphonious, soothing and pleasant. Haymarket was welcomed to the unexpected sweet delight Dulcet Cakes & Sweets, which opened in April this year, taking over the very popular Chinese savoury scene by introducing this part of the city hood with earth-shattering sweets that are absolutely to die for!
Armed with my baking queen sister-in-law, we walked into this quirky, tiny, sugar-filled patisserie, with its minimalist interior decked in turquoise and marble surfaces, alongside dessert-filled cabinets and one table featuring a high-cushioned seat. And it didn't take us long to realise that we were in for a real treat! Pardon the pun!
Sydney's new boutique patisserie took cakes and all things sweet to the next-level, with mind-blowing, impressive and delicious treats that took our senses into an overdrive of all things heavenly, delightful and addictive!
Sweet dreams are certainly made of Dulcet Cakes & Sweets. Priding itself on hand-making everything they possibly can with love, passion and integrity- and this can be seen (and tasted), with every dessert item being a culinary masterpiece.
They have a wide range of sweets including Duran cake, Tofu Cheesecake, Matcha Opera Cake, Matcha Chestnut Mousse, Coconut Panacotta/ Mousse cake, Galaxy Cakes and the amazing Chocolate or Matcha Mille Crepes Cake.
Dulcet Cakes & Sweets leads you into a state of indecisiveness with their mouthwatering and eye-catching displays and menu. Eventually, after a hard thought, we decided to try the Popcorn Snicker Bar, Matcha Crepes and Coconut- dark chocolate, coconut and pineapple desserts. Our beverages consisted of Osmanthus Green Tea from Dulcet Organic Special Tea range and Blue Lemon Mojito from the Dulcet Mocktail Mojito range.
The Popcorn Snicker Bar ($7) is every Snicker chocolate lovers dream come true. Wow! not just did this piece of divine goodness look like a Snicker Bar, it also mirrored the taste from the textural aspect of the nuts to the soft and not overly sickly cake with its 'marshmallow' layers. It sets the bar high for all other 'snicker bar cakes' out there!
Immediately, after the first forkful, I was transported into the world of heavenly matcha and a melt-in-your-mouth softness of pure culinary orgasmic delight. It had the perfect amount of sugar, the cream was soft and not overpowering and the matcha was so pure, rich, aromatic and leaves you with an alluring sweetness with a slight lingering and welcoming earthy taste. What made this cake more spectacular was the pure imported matcha from Japan, the love, passion and care that was put into this exquisite masterpiece and above all the 20-layers of handmade and hand-assembled crepes! You must try it!
Our final dessert was the Coconut- dark chocolate, coconut and pineapple ($9.50). This quirky and cute dessert item transported me to my days in the South Pacific islands soaking up the rays and sipping on coconuts. The pure taste of "real" coconut was a cross between a panacotta and mousse cake with the dark chocolate followed with diced pineapple on top. It felt like summer in your mouth and it was divine with its light refreshing ingredients.
All the cakes tasted fresh, not sickly sweet and did not have that "standard" commercial cake taste of processed sugar with hints of flavour. They were light, pleasant on the taste buds and very easy to eat without having that heavy feeling or about to end up in sugar coma feeling!
Nothing can be faulted at Dulcet Cakes & Sweets- everything is beautifully crafted and tastes delectable. This patisserie is a force not to be reckoned with in the cake world and without a doubt should be placed on Sydney's dessert eatery map!
Dulcet Cake & Sweets sister patisserie is located in Burwood and offers plenty of sit-in dining and more treats to indulge in.
