Customs House on the Brisbane River is one of my favourite restaurants.Its extensive frontage offers you wonderful views of Story Bridge and its Heritage Listing creates the right atmosphere and beauty. July is promising to be particularly attractive with a Duck Degustation Dinner on Thursday 27th July at 6:30pm.

John Offenhauser - Executive Chef has crafted a five-course menu featuring Grimaud Duck and their house grown cellar mushrooms. I have written about their cultivation in a previous article. The courses will be accompanied by carefully selected matched wines.

The plan for the night goes as follows:
On arrival: Steamed duck buns
First: Duck prosciutto, walnuts, fig jam
Second: Smoked duck, with pear and Granny Smiths, celery leaves
Third: Handmade duck ravioli, house grown mushrooms
Fourth: Duck breast, red currants, cauliflower, broad beans
Fifth: Baked duck egg custard

The excitement doesn't end with the Duck Degustation. Customs House is also planning a couple of winter warmers for those cooler Brisbane days.

They will be transforming their terrace to a stylish bar complete with cosy Igloos and a warming winter menu. This will feature Absolut Vodka, that iconic winter warmer. Let me tell you it will not be served neat, but you will have to go along and see what delicious cocktails the Bar has concocted just for you.

There will be enticing cheese platters, crispy pork cheek sliders and chocolate fondues to satisfy the biggest chocolate fantasy on offer to tantalise those taste buds.

One of the winter menus on offer will feature:

Spanner crab, sweet corn, finger lime, pomelo, almond
Roast quail, truffle mushroom farci, port infused prunes, polenta
Pan seared snapper, oyster mushrooms, Chinese spinach, pine nuts, celery,
anchovy butter
Chargrilled eye fillet, beef fat roasted Jerusalem artichokes, caramelised onion,
green mustard, jus
Chocolate fondant, freeze dried mandarin, buttermilk ice cream
Charred pear, hazelnut toffee cake, liquorice ice cream, salted caramel.
