A captivating fountain show to dramatic music
The Dubai Fountain is the world's tallest choreographed fountain system which is set outside the world's largest shopping mall, The Dubai Mall, at the base of the world's tallest building, The Burj Khalifa.

Just being there makes the hairs stick up on the back of your neck! It is an amazing place.

There is a metropolis of shops and restaurants that surround the 30-acre Burj Lake with shows from street performers thrown in for your additional entertainment.

The dancing fountains are a must-see attraction whilst in Dubai and can be seen during the day and once dark. I think it is more spectacular when it's dark because you also get to see the lights which add to the visual, dramatic display.

The evening shows start at 6pm and are every 30 minutes, with the last show at 11pm.

The afternoon show times are 1pm, 1.30pm and 2pm Saturday - Thursday and on Fridays they start at 1.30pm for 3 shows.

The fountains 'dance' to a selection of different songs (one song per show), from classical through to Arabic and pop music. We watched several shows and for me, the most impressive was 'Skyfall' sung by Adele. It was spine tingling stuff.

There are various places to view the fountains from and a seat in a restaurant or cafe would be awesome. We, however, initially watched from ground level which was as good a place as anywhere, until we realised you could go out onto the balcony of the Apple Store on the first floor of the shopping mall and get a truly fabulous view of the fountains.

This is where I would say is the best view of the fountains as you don't need to buy a drink or any food and really is totally free! There is a limit to the number of people that can be on the balcony at any one time, so you may find yourself queuing to get this amazing view.

We just happened to be in the Apple Store when a show had just finished and didn't queue and it was easy to fill the 30 minutes to the next show by just people watching and taking the stunning views in.

Wherever you are going to watch from, you need to get into position early, particularly if you want to take good photos or a video that doesn't have lots of hands holding phones in the air!

Just because you have seen it once, doesn't mean you won't want to take more pics and videos, because each show is different remember! I think there are six different shows/songs.

For the evening performances, the surrounding lights go out which is an indication that the show is due to start.

There is no substitution for being there in person; no video or amount of photos will do the show justice or give you the atmosphere of standing in the shadow of the world's tallest building watching the electrifying fountains dancing in a mesmerising water, music and light spectacle.

It is a must-do activity whilst in Dubai.
