"Why is it called ?" I ask myself as I push through the front door of this trendy little wine bar in Redfern. It's sure ironic seeing as the wine and liquor served here is the opposite of dry. Either way, it's not even important because it's much-needed presence in this part of town.

A wine bar in Redfern sounds almost alien, as if it should be replaced by "in Surry Hills". Granted, we're only a five-minute walk away from the modish streets of Surry Hills. And it's about time that there's a bar really worth going to in Redfern.

has a wonderfully wooden feel. It's minimalistic without looking boring, and it's dimly lit with a brown palette. I liked it immediately the first time I walked by it one night.

We sit on the high stools by the bar because the other tables are already taken. When we leave around midnight we take note that the tables and chairs look much more comfortable. The high stools we were sitting on were too small for comfort. After a 3-hour stint on these hard and little stools, our bodies were crying out for a sofa or bed or any cushioned sort of contraption.

I have a pinot gris to start, which goes down nicely. Then I opt for a champagne cocktail. But it's a different version of the classic champagne cocktail. There's a sugar cube and bitters, but no cognac.

My friend tries the Zombie, served in this awesome tiki glass which could pass as a vase (it would look pretty with tulips in it, no?). It's got at least a handful of different types of alcohol in it, but I can't remember for the life of me which ones. And it's on fire too! Regardless, I'm liking this vase slash glass.

I was so full when I got there, I couldn't eat another thing. Which is a shame because the food menu looked enticing. Pickled eggs are what this bar is known for apparently. Next to us on the bar there are eggs lying peacefully in a (very dry-looking, I might add) nest. Interesting piece of décor.

Some things that catch my eye as I peruse the menu: yummy cheeseburger for $17 and a crème brulee with strawberries and shortbread for $12.50.

And here's something that gives a special factor: they have a vinyl collection that lends to the chilled out music that you hear as you sip on your wine. There's something you don't see everyday.

You probably know by now that I'm a big fan of small bars. I'm very happy this bar has joined the small bar culture in Sydney. Keep 'em coming, I say.

Since is very new, there's no website yet, but feel free to follow them on Twitter .
