I love my children more than anything else in this world, and I love them just that teeny tiny bit more when I have had a break from them. A break for grocery shopping, to attend an appointment, or just to have a coffee alone, without grubby fingers poking the chocolate covered froth on my cappuccino or asking for food that won't be eaten.

This precious 'me' time is exactly why every major shopping centre should have a creche. Popular with gyms so mums and dads can work out in peace, why not extend the service to shopping centres so parents can get stuff done or take a break to recharge? Westfield Carousel has one of the best facilities with .

is a childminding service for children aged 2-12 years, run by mum of two Azalea and her experienced team. I took my 3-year-old daughter Emma for a play the other day while I enjoyed a much-needed coffee break ALONE and did a bit of grocery shopping.

If you are familiar with Westfield Carousel - located in Cannington - you will know it has always been a massive shopping centre. Following a redevelopment in 2018, it became the biggest in WA and is now home to H&M, Dangerfield, Guess and Nike, alongside favourites such as David Jones, Myer, Coles, Woolworths, Kmart and Target.

Along with the shopping, the entertainment precinct boasts Hoyts Cinema, iPlay , Strike Bowling , which includes Escape Room, Laser Tag and Karaoke, heaps of food and drink outlets and even a kids' play area, so Carousel well and truly has whatever you need or want.

Taking the time to browse some of the wonderful facilities can be impossible with children. They cry. They whine. They tell you they need to go to the toilet when your trolley is half full. cater for kids aged up to 12 and provide age-appropriate activities, so you can leave them knowing they will be well cared for.

I was a bit apprehensive about leaving Emma with someone she was unfamiliar with. She's a bit of a 'mummy's girl' and even when we are at home, needs to know where I am. Before we got to the creche she told me she didn't want me to leave her. Oh dear. Me staying at the creche well…defeats the purpose.

Azalea was welcoming and friendly and took the time to introduce us to the other staff and children at the creche, which was great for parents and nervous children alike. She showed us to the bathrooms and to a nursing area, where mums can sit and feed their baby in peace while the older children play.

Emma ran straight for the ball pit and then had a play on the play structure, which has two slides, spaces to crawl through and plenty of padding, and is surrounded by safety netting. The crèche features a HEAP of toys for younger kids, including plenty of imaginative play, ride-on toys, dolls, books and so much more.

For older children, the creche offers structured activities during the school holidays, such as arts, craft and painting, which are pinned to the wall for all to see. There is also a gaming corner if they need a bit of chill time after the long school term.

The creche has 2 adults on-site to a maximum of 12 children, meaning kids won't be fighting for attention if they need help with something.

If you would like to do some child-free shopping, have a facial or simply sit down for a coffee, you can book your child into the creche for 1, 1.5 or 2 hours. Along with these standard sessions, also offers a range of special bookings , which you can see below.

  • Movies Creche Booking - have a movie date without the kids with these special 3 hour sessions.
  • Thursday Night Date Nights - these 2 hour sessions run Thursday nights and are an opportunity for a child-free dinner or shopping experience.
  • Kids Art Class
  • Mums and Bubs Session
  • Toddler Sensory Classes
  • Group bookings and coffee at Senso
  • Private party bookings - hire the creche for your next party!

  • is open daily from 10am to 4pm Monday to Wednesdays, Friday and Saturday, 10am-6pm Thursdays and 11am-4pm Sunday, with last booking an hour before closing time.

You can pack nut-free snacks for the kids, and they will need a bottle of water, nappies if needed and socks.

You will find near the Valet Parking at Westfield Carousel, on the ground level of the underground carpark. It is a brilliant idea for one of Perth's major shopping and entertainment precincts, and you and your children won't be disappointed with the care and service received.
