Event:
Give your old gear a new lease of life
If you are in possession of a bunch of jeans with worn out knees, a pile of tops with tiny tears, a few work shirts missing a button or two, or an old dress that needs an update, now is the time to retrieve your worn out pieces from the back of your wardrobe, and get repairing at Handmaker's Factory drop in Mend It Workshop.

Mend It Workshop
Mend It Workshop - Handmaker's Factory

Taught by all-round craft guru and talented seamstress Nichola Prested, this is the opportunity to learn a few basic mending skills to give your old gear a new lease of life.

You will find a few online mending tutorials that you can try out at home if you follow Handmaker's Factory blog and project page. There is one particular project, Mend your Jeans, that I tried at home, and it worked a treat:

On the other hand, you might be the type that will learn better in a hands-on class environment, in which case Handmaker's Factory Mend It Workshop is for you.

There will be supplies and sewing tools available such as zips, threads and fabric scraps, and Nichola on hand to assist you with your mending pile.

What you will need to bring on the day:

Your mending/refashioning pile
Any sewing tools or materials specific to your mending task such as matching threads or fabrics.

Sewing machines, a cutting out table and an ironing board plus iron are all provided in the studio. There will also be snacks and tea available during the day.
