Who says the beach is only for the summertime? And, the only fun you can have is basking in the sun, only to take a dip into the cool water when it all gets too hot?

That's a given, there is nothing better than being at the beach on a hot day, but, winter time at the beach can be just as fun. Okay, so maybe you're not keen on taking the plunge into the dark icy water, me neither, but, there's no reason why you can't enjoy the beach during winter.

Don't let the cold or rain dishearten you from doing just that this weekend. Take to the road for a day trip, or for a weekend adventure down the coast. The beach is beautiful at this time of year and the Mornington Penninsula shoreline is a spectacular sight—with an overcast drab grey sky as your back drop, or perhaps if luck is on your side, the sun will find its way into the sky sans clouds, and you may even get to see a pod of seals hanging out.

Imagine the rain dancing on the beach's surface, thunder lightning up the open sky in a frenetic light show dance—it really is something to see.

Let the kids scavenge the sand banks along Dromana Beach for sea glass, weathered bits of wood, seagrasses or shells aplenty; skim rocks along the water's surface, or watch the waves crash to the shore. Summer time is still a way away, but, I guarantee you once you discover this beautiful stretch of beach while it is desolute and free from the thousands that crowd it's shores in summer, you'll be wanting to return and thankful you got to see it in all its beauty in a new light.

Pack yourself a picnic lunch, or if you feel like and the weather permits, bring some supplies for a barbecue at Dromana Shore Park. If not, there are plenty of restuarants open for dining—Stellas Dromana Hotel is always a favourite. Dine inside their cosy dining room, or bistro, the food is delightful and the prices extremely reasonable. Sit back and relax on their deck with a drink and enjoy the bay views. Then watch the sun set and bask in the magic that is Dromana beach in winter time, dreaming of doing it all again in summer.
