Head to Mornington Peninsula this year to join in the Australia Day celebrations.
On 26 January 2017, the Dromana Australia Day Committee 2017 will hold Australia Day celebrations on the Dromana Foreshore located at the corner of Pier Street and Point Nepean Road, commencing at 8am and culminating at 1.30pm.
The festivities will kick off at 8am, when Greg Hunt will open the event. A free community breakfast comprising of sausages, egg and bacon for a gold coin donation will be hosted at 8am.
At 10:30am, the flag raising ceremony will be hosted by 1st Dromana Sea Scouts together with Dromona Bay Life Saving Club as well as an address by the Australia Day Ambassador, Fr Bob Maguire AM RFD (Vic). Fr Bob Maguire AM RFD (Vic) is one of Australia's best-loved parish priests and is one of our unheralded, true Australian heroes. He is an outspoken advocate for the poor and disadvantaged and was a State Finalist Senior Australian of the Year 2011. More information about him can be found here.
There will be a plethora of free kids activities and live entertainment. The highlights include performances by Poppy the Clown, Charlie Silly Pants Melbourne Madness hero and Lachlan the Magician. The little ones will be rendered delirious with joy by face painting activities, balloon artist, jumping castle, animal farm, circus workshops, rides and family quiz. People of all ages can try their hand at squash, lawn bowls, beach netball, handball and so forth.
The live stage program includes a wonderful lineup of local talents like Missing Links, Ling Marra, Andrew Farrell -Piano Wizard and Ron Vincent as Cat Stevens. The Dromana Australia Day Community Youth Awards will be a crucial part of the celebrations and will take place from 12pm to 1pm. Another drawcard will be the EMH Classic Car Display which will entice and impress. The Hillview's Mornington Peninsula Photographic Display will woo visitors.
Further, community food will be on offer after 10am. There will also be food vendors selling tasty treats. Spectacular views of the Dromana bay will be a bonus.
