Crawl out of a warm bed. Chuck on some clothes. Into the car for the long haul to work. The only thing that keeps you going is the thought of a coffee at the other end, even if it is a cup of lukewarm instant.
What if a short diversion could see you with a piping hot espresso in hand? You could sip away dreamily and savour the delicious aroma, oblivious to the traffic jams, the road rage and the boss waiting for you at the other end.
Thank heavens for the drive-thru coffee outlets that are springing up on the corridors into Melbourne. And hey, I'm not talking about McDonalds here where you get stuck behind a family ordering their multiplex breakfast and your day is gone.
These caffeine hit and drives are open from the wee hours of the morning, have highly skilled baristas and claim to offer lightening fast service.
Below are some of the outlets. But if you know of others let us know.
Latte Cartelle (franchise)
Sounds like a mafia hit group but I guess coffee comes close to being an illicit substance. Latte Cartelle started Melbourne's first drive thru back in 2004 and it was a drive-away success. You can spot this mob because of the warm tones of their logo and their bold claim to get you back on the road in 90 seconds. You will now find them at:
Everything you need to get you buzzing. Their promise "to kick that morning grump or get you over your afternoon hump." They use premium Arabica beans coffee beans plus some pretty unique flavours in a variety of strengths. You can claim yours as either a Short, Tall, Grande or the Really Big One. Each customer is greeted personally with someone coming up to you rather than the faceless voice covered by a microphone. Their Di Bella Coffee won the CSR Golden Bean Award in 2009 and came runner up in 2010 and 2011. Muzz Buzz is easy to spot, because there coffee outlets are reminiscent of oversized coffee cups and sport the colours green and purple.
Excellent coffee and with two sides you can drive through. You also get a member card where they record your order. Then you can add money to the card on their website which makes it even easier to get your coffee on the run.

Mug Drive Thru Café (MacLeod)
Another one where there is the lovely courtesy of coming out to the car to ask for and deliver your order. Can't miss this one as there are plenty of signs to tell you when to turn off. In a large vacant lot so nice to have a moment's respite from the traffic. The young females who work here always seem to have a big smile. Mug Drive Thru Café have their own coffee card app which scans on your iPhone as a loyalty card. Ring before you leave home and you can pick up your coffee on the way. 9432 8880

Okay this is a four minute car wash place but they also have a dedicated drive through coffee window which is equally as popular. Great friendly service and in a prime position and in a for the drive home.

So remember to let us know if you know of other places and let's time these places and find the fastest place to get you back on the road. The clock starts from when you place your coffee order.
