Bring your 'religious' funny bone
DreamSong is an original musical playing at the beautiful Alex Theatre in St Kilda.

The show describes itself as an Australian version of The Book of Mormon and it is kind of but I would slip in that it also has overtones of Bye Bye Birdy and Rock of Ages, with all the absurdity and fun of all three. It certainly has some great musical numbers that wouldn't be out of place on Broadway.

It's premise though is more like a plethora of American Murder mystery shows that are about 'evil' Evangelists and wondering why do they do it. This actually has a bit of an explanation in song too.

There are two Jesuses 'competing' one a male rock star type and another a female gluten free Jesus. It actually is very funny with some serious overtones and definitely directly from the headlines and personalities of today which is amazing as it was originally written back in 2010. Just shows how unfortunately some things never change. And like with Book of Mormon, don't think that you have to be only anti religious to have a laugh as there are some sensitive moments in there. But definitely it really helps to have a sense of humour and basically a love of talented musical performers.
