The Burrinja Cultural Centre has a couple of great talks coming up in November.
Dreaming of Dior On 14th November, Charlotte Smith (author of 'Dreaming of Dior' and owner of The Darnell Collection), will be hosting a luncheon at Burrinja. Charlotte's godmother Doris Darnell collected beautiful garments for over 70 years. That collection has been added to by Charlotte and now comprises over 7,000 pieces. Each piece came with its own story, meticulously researched and matched to its own particular garment. The story of how the collection came to Australia and continued to grow is really worth hearing. The luncheon includes a viewing of the Fashion meets Fiction exhibition. Cost is $35.
On 21st November, meet Marion Boyce. Marion was responsible for the wonderful wardrobe on the recent ABC series 'Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries'. With just 8 weeks to prepare a wardrobe Marion put together a perfect 'flapper' wardrobe for the central character Phryne Fisher. The outfits comprised of over 120 pieces, some from Marion's own private collection. This talk is also a luncheon and, as above, includes the Fashion meets Fiction exhibition.
Both talks promise to be hugely interesting for anyone who loves their fashion.
