After a rough 2020, South Aussie children and families again have a festival in which to learn and play together in Adelaide.

The biennial DreamBIG children's festival has become a welcome and integral part of Adelaide's festival scene. Finally, in 2021, all the festival fun will take place again in Adelaide from the 19th to the 29th of May.

Most of the program is housed at the Festival Centre but there are a few notable events being held around the city. The jam-packed 2021 program promises heaps of fun and learning for kids of all ages with live performances, exhibitions, interactive activities and, for the first time, at home family experiences.

There's some new and unique shows on this year's program. One of them is 'The Narrator'. This will be a 50 minute show on a bus! The windows of the bus act as the screens through which the audience will watch live actors tell a story with real locations, buildings, and passers-by.

Little kids under three years old will love 'Our Corka Bubs' - A captivating story grounded in Aboriginal culture and told through movement and music. Older kids (ages 12 ) will find 'Mental' at the Marion Cultural Centre to be a compelling and contemporary performance exploring positive mental health.

There's more than 20 free events and activities to select from. 'Ping Pong WoW' will fill the space of the Adelaide Rowing Club with 2000 ping pong balls to invite play and interaction. For the more serious kids, there's a talk on robotics called "Curious Bots' by Dr Catriona Wallace, all about AI and machine learning.

The focus event of the festival is the Big Family Weekend on the 22nd and 23rd May. The festival will spill out into Elder Park by hosting the 'Fork on the Road' food truck crew both days, while Government House will be holding an open day on the 23rd of May. There'll be lots of free and ticketed events happening that weekend in and around the Festival Centre so if planning isn't your thing it might help to focus on this weekend. The Big Family Weekend activities run between 10 am and 4 pm.

You can check out the program in detail and buy tickets here, or you can book at BASS. The DreamBIG Children's Festival ensures its program is accessible for everyone. You can get more details to help you plan your visit here.
