Freelance designer and illustrator, Tanya Hempson will be conducting an "Introduction to Drawing" workshop at Bright Learning on March 14th.

So who is Tanya Hempson? Here's a little background for you: "Art has been a constant in my life since day dot and by making it and selling it, I get to share my love for my work. I have a few creative diplomas under my belt and am currently undertaking a Diploma of Children's Illustration part time. The rest of the time I teach, draw, obsess over type, create design, write stories and soak up the Brisbane Sunshine. My brand represents 'ideate' ', 'communicate' and 'visualize' - values which are key to my creative development and success."

Tanya is very suitably qualified to be running this workshop, which she says is a combination of passion, curiosity and a potential for breaking barriers. Beginners will learn the value of experimenting, line making and conceptualising. Those who are more advanced will get to see things from a different perspective for a day, which can then be transferred into their practice. She believes all we need to begin to learn to draw is a surface, an implement, confidence and curiosity.

Tanya says, "Learning to draw is an innate potential we all have, just like learning to write or riding a bicycle. My first aim of the workshop is to tackle the concept of 'artistically challenged'. We can learn the fundamentals of drawing in a day and then we can improve, overcoming 'artistic challenge' hurdles one by one, over time."

During the workshop students will be drawing from the imagination , extracting from reference, patterning, symbols etc. They will also be looking at their environment, drawing inspiration from people and places.

Bring along your imagination (absolutely essential) and a willingness to learn and be surprised at what you can achieve. Come and find out why, in Tanya's mind, drawing is the greatest implement of all in our toolbox of creativity.
