Jude Roberts is an artist interested in the groundwater and ephemeral river systems within the Great Artesian Basin - vast areas of water that lie beneath areas of Western Queensland. Groundwater basins are one of the last unknown landscapes on earth. These hidden waters are vast tracts yet to be fully realised even though they are ancient and present structures.
Drawing the Artesian sees methods of drawing, frottage and print processes employed in a set of mixed media works that focus on understanding the way humans interact with the earth's land and water systems.
Jude Roberts is a post-graduate student at the QLD College of Art in South Bank. Her research into the geography, hydrology and geology of the Basin has lead to collaborations with scientists, communities and artists in an interchange between science and art, nature and those who inhabit it.
