Drama With A Difference is one of Australia's most respected and established independent drama schools. Having operated for over twenty years, its Adult Recreational Course has always been a part of its program. Course participants regularly give feedback about how these classes benefit them in their daily lives; via greater confidence, a zest for life and better upfront speaking skills in the work place. The recreational classes provide adults with a wonderful form of stress release, in a fun, safe and relaxed environment. No prior experience is required, although it would still be stimulating for those who do have some background in theatre. The teacher is a veteran of theatre, film and TV, having worked as a professional actor (and acting teacher) for 30 years.
Drama With A Difference is known for creating a safe and nurturing environment for non-actors, where the emphasis is very much on personal best. The atmosphere is non-competitive, and students come from a wide range of ages, professions and trades.Students will be introduced to many of the techniques used by professional actors, but in a manner that will greatly benefit their own personal and working lives.Students will learn:Improvisation - coming up with ideas on the spur of the momentVoice - which tends to occur naturally as part of the processScript work - in particular, looking at a variety of short scenesCharacter work - how to create someone other than yourselfMovement - in terms of how a different person moves
During the upcoming term (Named Block 4), a very relaxed, in-house performance will be held. It will be open to friends and family only. This will take place in an intimate, 40 seat theatre and is designed to show people some of the things that students have been doing throughout the term. It is not designed to be a "slick" piece of theatre; it is rather more like a "work in progress". The course runs Thursday nights, starting October 6th to December 15th (late applicants accepted on a pro-rata basis if spaces available). For more information on the course structure, please visit the Drama with a Difference website or contact 0407 091 591.
