This book is the end to the War of The Lance, unravels the dark and mysterious secrets that the companions have kept for so long. Laurana and Tanis are definitely playing a major role in this book. I love this book for its suspense and the fact that all the characters are chosen, and they each play roles that seem dangerous. Tas was changed in this book, changed for the better, when Flint had died, and that really touched me.

The companions are reunited at last, but soon are separated. It said in the book that this parting grieved Tanis so much. At first, I wondered, why this was, when they had been separated for so long, so many times. Then I thought more about it. This was so grievous perhaps because Tanis was making this himself, perhaps because in this parting he was leaving behind those which had been with him throughout the entire war--until now that is. That is my assumption anyway, but I feel more than certain that it is accurate.

I admired Goldmoon and Riverwind because their self-sacrificing love brought back the knowledge of the ancient gods, and also brought hope into a darkened world. I realized that somehow, I respected Raistlin though he wore the black robes, and killed the image of his brother, because though he seemed cold and unfeeling, he really cared for the sick, the wretched, the weak because he alone knew how they felt. I kept this in mind during the entire time I was reading the book, but only once during the time on the PERECHON, when Raistlin abandoned his twin brother and his "friends" did I forget this. But, on looking back, I thought how strange it was that none of the companions(with the exception of Caramon) ever thought of it, ever considered this possibility.

So I hope more people will come to read this magnificent book, this wonderful series of chronicles, and enjoy it as much as I did.
