Theme/Cabaret restaurants are a dying breed but there is one local haunt, now in it's 30th year, still bringing the crowds or victims if you will - Dracula's Cabaret Restaurant, which is located on 100 Victoria St in Carlton, Victoria.
The iconic building, which was a warehouse in a previous life, is now dressed with menacing gargoyles, who watch from above and features a Ghost Train ride, a cabaret stage, cocktail lounge and rooftop deck, which can sit up to 100 guests. The horror-themed cabaret restaurant is geared towards an adult crowd, but teenagers aged 13 and over are welcomed, however be aware that the Cabaret Show features Drug and Sexual references and some Strong Lanugage.
The waitstaff adopt iconic horror personas – so you never know who might greet you and guide you towards the Graveyard Cocktail Lounge and you will surrounded by some wonderful classic Horror memorabilia to add to the fun atmosphere. The restaurant is best suited for larger celebratory groups - be it a 21st Birthday, a hen's night or work function – as smaller groups may have to share tables with other diners.
Upon booking by phone ((613) 9347 3344), you will be greeted by a unique Transylvanian voice. There are two ways to experience Dracula's - The first is the 'Bela Lugosi – VIP 'A' RESERVE Dinner & Show' which features priority entrance queue, priority Seating, VIP gift bag (including a Souvenir Programme), Gourmet Finger Food canapés, Complimentary Tea or Coffee and Complimentary Champagne Cocktail or Mocktail on arrival (Tuesday to Thursday - $90 per person, Friday & Saturday- $99 per person). The menu offers 5 main menu options including a Vegetarian option, also special dietary requirements can be catered for. The two hour cabaret show (split over four sets) often changes – currently 'Transfusion' is the production on offer – featuring dance routines, rock music, magic and illusion, comedy acts (which could make some cringe) and a puppetry show. It's been said often with Dracula's that if you do not take kindly to insults – be aware the staff and performers like to ridicule the diners. However for a kitschy night out Dracula's will fulfil all your ghoulish needs – it may be a pricey affair given the amount of merchandising on offer but it can be a fun night out - if you are willing to not take yourself too seriously for an evening.
