Where all your sugar dreams come true
Every time I come to the Melbourne office to work, I walk past Doughboys Doughnuts and look at their doughnuts on display. Every time I visit, I think I will actually try one, but every time I leave without trying one. This trip was different though, I actively made the time to go down and try the doughnuts.

When this doughnut shop popped up in St James Place, it was the result of the hard work of owners Walter McKenzie and Brook James. Their story started back in 2013 when they started making doughnuts and six years later they are still going strong in Bourke Street. The doughnuts they make on-site are glazed, dusted, iced or filled and each day there are 12 different flavours on offer, including the likes of maple glaze, sticky caramel and butterscotch.

On the day the I visited, I was instantly drawn to the Dusted Cruller - a cinnamon rubbed Choux pastry ring. I liked the idea of trying something different, but also something with the traditional cinnamon sugar dusting. I wasn't quite sure what the texture would be like on the inside but as the name suggested, the texture was less fluffy doughnut and more choux pastry, which I loved! It was definitely something different and it showed their creativity and effort.

Their effort and attention to detail doesn't stop at the doughnuts and extends to the interior itself, which includes quality materials like rich timber panelling, checkerboard tiles and brass custom pendant lighting. These features are all reminiscent of those old-world European espresso bars, making it the perfect spot for afternoon tea or a quick doughnut catch up!
