The Doug Moran National Portrait Prize is Australia's richest art prize and has seen many of Australia's most prominent artists included in its ranks.In 1988, the Doug Moran National Portrait Prize was established by Doug and Greta Moran and family to foster and encourage Australian portraiture.The Doug Moran National Portrait Prize has grown to become one of this country's most prestigious art prizes with the largest prize money of any art competition in Australia.
2018 marks the 30th anniversary of the Doug Moran National Portrait Prize and to celebrate this milestone, this year's exhibition at the historic Juniper Hall will showcase 2018 finalists alongside a selection of works from the Moran collection.
This is a one-off opportunity to see winning artworks from past years of the Moran Prize including some of Australia's most acclaimed artists like Lesley Rice, Ben Quilty and Prudence Flint to name a few.
Juniper Hall, the home of the Moran Arts Foundation, is believed to be the oldest surviving mansion from Governor Macquarie's time to be found in Sydney, it was built by emancipated convict Robert Cooper in 1824. This historic building in the centre of Paddington is a unique gallery for the Moran Prizes.
