Doubley good coffee in Deakin
Double Shot Café is located in Deakin, an inner south suburb of Canberra only minutes from the CBD. This attractive café always looked busy during the week with diners relaxing under bright yellow umbrella's and groups of office workers walking in for takeaway coffees.
Weekends are no different with lines starting to form outside, so best to get in early or make a booking at this popular café.
Double Shot Cafe. Plenty of tables if you arrive early.
Our family decided to visit for a weekend breakfast and as we arrived early there were empty tables to choose from. It soon started to fill up with families, couples and groups of friends meeting for breakfast or coffees. This busy atmosphere, with the sound of laughter and good times, makes this an uplifting café to spend some time.
Our family decided to sit inside under this intriguing sign on the stacked log feature wall.
The poetic meaning behind this is explained on Double Shot's website: "The words 'I wake up wanting to kiss you' are scrawled across the contemporary wooden walls opening up the promise of finely roasted coffee gracing your lips before the day's dance begins".
The décor is creative - with hanging ropes, stacked logs feature walls, upside down hanging pots, a mystical mural, exposed industrial lighting and artistically placed pots and accessories. Amongst it all, the front counter also has a range of delicious looking cakes and desserts to choose from.
As we were there for breakfast, we checked out the menu and what was on offer.
With our coffees we ordered the Burger with Gruyere cheese, baby spinach, egg, aioli and tomato relish ($12) and the Free Range Scrambled Eggs ($11). Our young daughter ordered white toast with honey ($8).
Although we thoroughly enjoyed our morning at the café with its fun and funky atmosphere, we must admit to being slightly underwhelmed by the small serving sizes - especially for my hungry husband and his burger.

There is an inside dining area with two sections (one with a beautifully misty mural) which creates a fairly large area inside. Outside there are numerous tables and chairs in the sun or shade, sitting amongst tulips and gardens.
Double Shot Café is a popular café in the prestigious suburb of Deakin. With a modern vibe, creative décor and exceptional coffee it is a relaxed café to meet friends and enjoy the atmosphere. Our family would come back again for coffee and delicious looking cakes or try one of their "famous" peanut butter milkshakes. On a Summers day, sitting outside under the umbrella's would a cool place to enjoy morning tea.
Double Shot café is also located minutes from historic Calthorpe's House, if you wish to include it in your morning out.
On the way out you can't help but be inspired by the original herb planter boxes out the front to get you through the rest of the day.
