Following a stellar 2016 event with over 500,000 attendees, the much-loved BBR Festival will return for its fifth year with its biggest program to date and a brand new name, Bastille Festival, the Food Wine Art Revolution.
Uniting individuals and countries in the spirit of Bastille Day, the free street celebration will take place at one of Sydney's most iconic locations, Circular Quay, across four huge days and nights over the Bastille Day weekend.
A celebration of food, wine and art, the Festival's jam-packed program involves over 100 performance artists, more than 100 specialty food offerings from countries such as France, Germany, Greece, Portugal and Switzerland; and an incredible selection of beer and wines from some of the most reputable vineyards in France, Spain and Italy.
The Festival will include four main areas:
Be transported from Sydney to the Moulin Rouge with the Festival's two French villages located at Customs House Square and Scout Place. A stylish celebration of everything French, the two villages will include a smorgasbord of gourmet food, live performances, films, traditional cabaret and chic homewares. There will also be wine and Champagne masterclasses from regions including Bordeaux, Beaujolais, Champagne and the Loire Valley.
A celebration of Belgium, Germany, Switzerland and the Netherlands, The Nordic Village will offer delicious winter dishes teamed with mulled wines and craft beers. Attendees can enjoy renowned national specialties such as mussels (Belgium), pretzels and hot dogs (Germany), a wide range of cheeses (Switzerland), as well as waffles and pancakes (The Netherlands). For beer lovers, The Nordic Village will also offer an Electro Beer Garden complete with degustation menu.
This is the place to party! Bringing the heat to the Festival, The Latin Village will celebrate Italy, Greece, Portugal and Spain. Take a salsa lesson, watch flamenco and Portuguese folk dancing, or indulge in a wide range of authentic foods including Italian wood-fire pizza and gelato, and Spanish paella and tapas.
Throughout the four days of the Festival, more than 100 artists will descend onto Circular Quay, including fire twirlers, circus performers, opera singers, flamenco and salsa dancers, magicians and many more. There will also be live music concerts including street bands and free dance parties.
For those looking to relax, the Festival will once again host its open-air-cinema, Le Cinema, where attendees can watch a film from the comfort of a deck chair with a warm blanket. On the big screen will be international award-winning films with English subtitles.
There will be 7 screenings during the Festival, including presentations of the French classic Amélie, the Academy-Award winning La Vita é Bella (Life is Beautiful) and Baz Luhrmann's Moulin Rouge! starring Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor. Tickets start from $18. Click here to find out more about what's on and ticketing options.
