Double Jeopardy was released in 1999 and is a thriller directed by Bruce Beresford and starring Ashley Judd (Elizabeth Parsons), Tommy Lee Jones (Travis Lehman) and Bruce Greenwood (Nick Parsons).

Nick and Elizabeth (Libby) appear to be the perfect wealthy couple. They have a young son and are very much in love - at least that's what Elizabeth believes. When they take a friend's boat out for a weekend away Libby's life goes spiraling out of control when she awakes from a nap to find herself covered in blood and her husband missing.

[ADVERT]Her husband is soon declared dead and she is charged and then convicted of his murder. Soon after arriving in prison, she finds out though that her husband is very much alive and living with their young son and her supposed trusted friend Angela Green (Annabeth Gish).

After coming to the realisation that Nick most likely faked his death and framed her, Libby learns from another inmate about the double jeopardy clause in the fifth amendment of the US constitution. She works hard to be a model inmate and gets paroled six years later.

Shortly after arriving in the halfway house run by Lehman, Libby sets about trying to track down Angela, her husband and son. She manages to get away from Lehman, but he follows her all the way to New Orleans where they end up in a gun fight with Nick.

This movie is an exciting one to watch, and for first timers, you are kept on the edge of your seat wondering what's going to happen next. So if you're after something to watch on a night in, you might want to try Double Jeopardy, although this is not a romantic date night in movie.
