Curious about trying Indian food, but not sure what, where and how? Head to Dosa Hut for a mix of North and South Indian favourites. Locations in Footscray, Tarneit, Roxburgh Park, Clayton, and Melbourne CBD.

The city location at 209 King Street, offers a casual venue offering main meals under $15, this is a place where you can feel comfortable eating with your fingers - that's really the only way to savour Indian food.

There are plenty of dosa options ranging from set dosas to paper dosas with various fillings and also a few North Indian biriyani favourites and indo-chinese noodle dishes for those who prefer rice and noodle dishes.

I could not resist the Masala Dosa combo deal - masala dosa with its spicy sambar with vegetables and chutney accompaniments, and alongside, an idly and a vada as appetisers and a divinely fruity mango lassi. The serving was too large for one, but the staff were happy to pack leftovers in a take home container.

If this is your first time eating Indian cuisine, I recommend starting with an entree of samosa (pastry filled with spicy potatoes) and a mango lassi (mango blended with yoghurt drink), then the chef's choice four stuffing dosa. What is a dosa? A rice flour based thin pancake, eaten plain or filled with vegetables or meat. At Dosa Hut, either potato, paneer, lamb, or chicken. Then finish with a traditional sweet dessert such as gulab jamon (dumpling) or kheer (rice pudding).

Child-friendly venue, gluten free and vegan-friendly menu, and reasonably priced, this is the spot for a simple midweek meal. Enjoy the awesome messiness of eating with your fingers.
