Taking the place of Swadesh Indian Restaurant, Dosa Hut along Main North Road at Prospect is one of a chain of restaurants in Australia that specialises in Indian cuisine. Aside from Indian dishes, the restaurant also offers a selection of Indo-Chinese dishes as well.

Dosa, a flat thin layered rice batter which looks like a crepe, is a key component of the menu. The dosa in the Chicken 65 Dosa was of a generous size with a light and fluffy texture. The Chicken 65 that accompanied it was juicy and had enough spices to give the dish a spicy taste. All their dosa dishes come with three different sauces – garlic, chutney and chilli.

Masala Dosa is one of the dosa that can be ordered as a combo deal. The dosa comes with Idly, Vada and a drink. Idly is an Indian rice cake that contains ground black lentils and Vada is a doughnut-like fritter made with chickpea flour. Their Idly had a wonderful fluffy texture and the earthy taste of the Vada complemented the Masala Dosa nicely. The potato in the masala filling was not too thick and the level of spiciness was quite mild.

One of the more unusual dishes that can be ordered, Uttapam is best described as an Indian version of pizza. Though the Onion Podi Uttapam had a generous amount of red onion, the onion taste was actually quite mild. The onion gave the dish some texture. A sprinkling of spicy lentil powder provided a bit of a spicy kick. Accompanying the dish were the same sauces that came with their dosa dishes.

A curry that is not usually seen in Indian restaurants in Adelaide, their Chicken Chettinad had a generous amount of chicken. The combination of chilli and peppercorns gave the dish a delectable spicy kick.

Diners that opt to order takeaway can purchase a $29.95 meal pack consisting of Samosa, curry, Saffron Rice, two Naans, salad and Gulab Jamun, an Indian dessert consisting of milk dumplings covered in sugar syrup. Dosa Hut also serves large size dosa that is 70mm long.
