One place I find myself going back to time and again is at Silverwater, adjacent to picturesque parkland alongside the river. Not only is it close to home, the restaurant food is always good and the menu changes seasonally, offering variety.

Currently the winter menu is in place and offers starters of breads, entrees that include Lamb Souvlaki and Garlic Prawns, mains of pasta and risotto as well as grilled salmon, pork belly, steaks, schnitzel, lamb shanks and beef burgers. I can vouch for the lamb shank braised in red wine and tomato with peas and mash. Very tender and perfect for winter.

My friend tells me the grilled salmon is also very nice.

Other mains a friend and I have had in the past include Lamb Wellington, Barramundi with Fennel Salad and Chicken Supreme, always coming out in a timely manner and well cooked.

If you love onion rings or wedges, these and others can be added as side dishes. Salads are also on the menu with an interesting combination in the roasted beetroot and goat cheese option with baby spinach, pumpkin, pine nuts, Spanish onion and raspberry vinaigrette.

A children's menu for those 12 years and under is available with a choice of Linguine Bolognaise, chicken nuggets, Scotch fillet and calamari rings. This includes a juice popper and a scoop of ice cream with topping for dessert.

Speaking of dessert, my favourite course, there's plenty of options. A separate dessert menu is on hand as well as a selection of cakes at the counter display. We've had so much trouble deciding on desserts at times that we have eaten it in as well as buying to take-away, such is the decadence that has you drooling. Black forest cake is done differently, served in a round mound of divine heaven, whilst the caramel mud cake is sweet heaven for caramel lovers.

The carrot cake with a big dollop of cream went down well on another occasion as did my friend's cherry and chocolate Zuccotto, consisting of chocolate gelato and cherry compote in light sponge.

The berry crepes with a scoop of ice cream are also very nice as are the chocolate hazelnut meringue and Banoffee tart I took home. They also have varieties of mousse and cheesecake, amongst other delights.

Prices are very reasonable with starters from $5, entrees from $13, mains from $17, salads from $16 and sides from $3. All items on the children's menu are $12 whilst desserts vary with cake and coffee combos around the $7 mark.

Sectioned dining areas cater for both casual and business lunches, families and intimate dinners for two. You can enjoy full table service or an express lunch ordered from the cafe or bar. Outdoor seating on the verandah is available in addition to indoor seating. A cosy area with lounges and a piano is great for relaxing after a meal with a coffee or drink from the bar. Overall, the ambience and decor in coffee tones provides for a great mellow and comfortable space.

Open 7 days, with lunch from 12 noon and dinner from 5.30pm, Dooleys Waterview is one of three clubs under the Dooleys name and at least one of your accomplices will need to be or become a member.
