Rogue Projects presents a fresh new take on Joanna Murray-Smith's acclaimed comedy The Female of the Species at The Old Fitz Theatre from November 1-23. Tickets are now on sale for this premiere season.

Directed by Erica Lovell, The Female of the Species is a play that deftly walks the tightrope between satire and farce - a take-no-prisoners comedy that proves the female of the species is not only deadlier, but funnier than the male!

The Female of the Species is loosely inspired by Germaine Greer's experience of being held captive in her country house in Essex in 2000.

Alone in her country cottage, Margot Mason, rockstar feminist, writer and fearless academic is trying to write her next life-altering bestseller, something that can match her seminal work, The Cerebral Vagina. But rather than producing diamonds, the pressure has only produced crumpled pages and a serious case of writer's block.

Enter Molly, a committed fan with an axe to grind. And a gun.

Faced with the true impact of her life’s work, Margot must defend her choices to not only Molly and her gun, but to her daughter, her publisher, an errant taxi driver, and ultimately, us.

Almost two decades since its original premiere in 2006, The Female of the Species is increasingly relevant in our current discussion of gender politics - all while keeping its razor-sharp wit!

The Female of the Species will be staged at the Old Fitz, 129 Dowling St, NSW from 1 to 23 November 2024.
