Don't Let The Pigeon Drive The Bus! - Book Review

Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus is the first children's book written and illustrated by Mo Willems, one of the team of writers behind
Sesame Street. It's the very simple story of a pigeon who wants to drive a bus but isn't allowed to. Presumably he doesn't have a driver's licence.
The bus driver tells the reader he is taking a short break and to please make sure the pigeon doesn't drive the bus, leaving the reader, or the child being read to in charge. The illustrations are cute and simple and my three year old loved talking back to the pigeon (it's fun if you give him a funny voice) as he pleaded, cajoled and made silly excuses. I enjoy Mo Willem's sense of humour, which makes reading to my daughter more fun.
With its repetition this one would also be good for little people learning to recognise particular printed words.
If you enjoy this one there are now several more in the series, including
Don't Let the Pigeon Stay Up Late,
The Pigeon Wants A Puppy,
The Pigeon Has Feelings Too,
The Duckling Gets A Cookie and
The Pigeon Finds A Hotdog. There's even an activity book called
Don't Let The Pigeon Finish This Activity Book. He has also written a series for new readers called
Elephant and Piggy and the award winning
Knuffle Bunny books. Some of these childrens' authors really make me feel lazy!
