Donnybrook is that quaint town that is renown for its apples! Most of us have been there at one time or another, and it is actually the centre of apple production in Western Australia. Donnybrook is also known for its picturesque English oak trees. It is situated between Boyanup and Kirup on the South Western Highway and is about 210 kilometres south of Perth City.
Now they are holding their annual Donnybrook Food & Wine Festival on the banks of the Preston River in the Geographe Wine Region. This will be the 12th annual festival and it will be on from 10.00 am to 5.00 pm.
This is a delightful spot and they will have the Geographe region's best food and wine products. There will also be food trucks and stalls at the festival and some of these will include the following:
Antons Bratwurst - who make gluten-free genuine German sausages
The Chocolate Chili Pork Company - they make things like hot chocolate chilli pork belly rolls with apple/celeriac slaw; chilli sausage con carne and guacamole dog; and chocolate chilli pancetta and truffle egg roll
Fre Jac's French Bakery & Cafe -This Vasse bakery is run by ex Parisians, Roselyne and Jean-Marie. They handcraft authentic French food with local products as well as some imported ingredients from France.
Wineries and cider makers will include the following amongst others:
Birdwood Park Fruit Winery
Custard and Co. Cider - taste the difference with their fresh fermented Original, Vintage or Scrumpy ciders. They are made from local apples
There will also be live entertainment, wine tasting demonstrations, cooking demonstrations and some family activities. There will be activities for the children plus specialty stalls with local products.
It will be held on Saturday 24th November 2018, at the Donnybrook Amphitheatre, South West Highway, Donnybrook.
Wine TastingsYou will be able to have wine tastings which will be $10 per person. This will include entry to the licensed area, one of the festival tasting glasses, plus a wine tasting pass. This pass entitles you to have one complimentary tasting round of the wines and cider available at each stall.
You can then use your tasting glass to buy a glass, or glasses of wine straight from the individual wine stalls. You will also be able to purchase bottles to take home.
Their full program of activities, guest artists and events has not yet been released at the time of publication of this article, however, you can find this out nearer to the date of the actual event, by clicking on this
website. It is sure to be a fabulous program with plenty of things to do for everyone.
If you want to spend the weekend here, so you do not have to drive back to Perth, you can see a list of accommodation at this
