Donnie Darko is one of the most celebrated science-fiction films of the past decade, but even still many people have yet to see it, which in my opinion is movie-sacrilege of the worst kind. It's almost as bad as not having seen
Pulp Fiction or
Finding Nemo (for the kids).
Donnie Darko follows Donnie, a somewhat disturbed teenager, who goes on a spiritual and metaphysical journey of self discovery. Along the way he falls in love with the girl of his dreams, learns about physics and wormholes, and has several strange encounters with a man in a rabbit suit.
Donnie Darko is a fantastic movie with an extremely compelling narrative and a cast of excellent actors (I still think that this is Jake Gyllenhaal's best roll).
Donnie Darko is screening at the State Library this Sunday at 2 pm as a part of the State Library's SLiQ Flicks programme. Each Sunday for the next three months the library will be screening a different film, all for the people of Brisbane to enjoy free of charge. Check out the full catalogue
