A Pub with a View of the City
It's hard to see from the road but everyone knows it's there, just across from the Westfield shopping centre. Need I say more about its name?
So if you've had a hard day's shopping and can't be bothered cooking, you can just stagger across the road get a great meal and some refreshments and more of the same I guess.. stagger home.
Here's my keys - just one more for the road
The Shoppingtown Hotel offers something for everyone. It has a wide variety of facilities including a bistro, beer garden, TAB sports bar, accommodation, gaming room, conference facilities, nightclub, bottle shop, kid's Playstation and party room and cabaret room. It is perched in such a position that it has a magnificent view of the city.
A sunset AND city lights
Their entertainment is pretty impressive. Evening entertainers include locals and first class Aussie and international stars such as Angels, Psuedo Echo, Shannon Noll, Sweet and James Reyne. They also have morning musical melodies. Get the Sinatra, Elvis and Babba experience right there in Doncaster.
I remember when Shoppingtown Hotel was just a convenient half way spot to meet my friends' family. In those days the kids were small and they used to run wild in the outdoor area. I can still remember some long barmy nights at the Shoppingtown Hotel when the little ones would invariably leave half their meal so that they could climb on the rocks. If we had pooled their leftovers there would have been enough for us all.
The kid's play centre designed to make all family members happy
If you haven't been there for a while, you may not recognise the Shoppingtown Hotel. It has undergone an amazing renovation transformation. I am not a green lover, but the combination of the tiles, contrasting carpets, floor boards and massive light fittings is very appealing. If you are looking for a classy pub this could be worth a look.
It looks more spacious than ever. It still has various levels and sections that divide the sections and furniture to suit. For example on the lowest level of the eating area is a modern open wood fire. I would have backed up to that myself if a private party had not hogged the entire space.
On the next level many large tables and chairs, and around the bar area tall backed stools. The outdoor area, which is where you can enjoy the city view, has comfortable outdoor settings and barstools.
Unfortunately for some reason they don't make cocktails. This would be the ganache on the cake for me. Sipping a pina colada, not worrying about what to defrost, on a summers night and admiring the city lights…Could life get any better.
