A cafe with a playground is just one of those things in life that makes parenting easier and eating out with little kids more enjoyable. Many parents living or working around the Mount Pleasant area would be familiar with the old Deep Water Point Cafe at Deep Water Point Reserve. It had a small, adjoining playground, making it perfect for a child-friendly coffee catch up and play.

Then the cafe closed down, making it less of a drawcard for parents. The great news is, that there is now a Dome Cafe at the reserve, plus a playground. You can even sit outside in the alfresco area and enjoy a coffee while the kids play.

Deep Water Point Reserve is located along The Esplanade in Mount Pleasant and is situated on the banks of the Swan River. There is shallow water for paddling and swimming, picnic areas and public barbecues to use if you want to bring a picnic or barbecue lunch or dinner along.

One each side of the Dome Cafe is a play area. The main play space is located right next to the cafe and features a timber play fort and natural play elements. On the other side is a set of swings feature an accessible swing and a birds nest swing. There are also toilets opposite this play area.

It is most suited to younger kids, while a rope play structure closer to the river is better for older children. The play fort features rope play, a stone slide and things to explore underneath the structure. It will keep them amused for an hour or two while you enjoy a coffee or give them an opportunity to burn off some energy before lunch.

There are Dome Cafe franchises located throughout WA, and the menu is generally the same among each venues, although the specials may change between franchises. They serve up a range of meals, snacks, sweet treats and hot and cold drinks in a relaxed, casual atmosphere.

Dome Cafe tends to be child-friendly, and the Deep Water Point venue is no different. They offer high chairs for the youngest children, plus a children's menus and colouring sheets and pencils for the kids to complete and of course - toilets.

The children's menu is one of the biggest around, and has something for every taste, from simple toast with butter and preserves, to pizzas and cheesy arancini. They also serve a range of kids drinks, including juices, milkshakes and even a coffee-free Espreski for kids.

The main menu features classic cafe foods such as all-day breakfasts, lasagne, soups, salads and sandwiches. They also serve pizzas, burgers, cakes and snacks. I tend to order a Caesar salad with chicken, which is always tasty and generous in size, although the Minestrone Soup is also one of my favourites, along with the Scones with jam and cream.

Deep Water Point Reserve is the ideal spot for child-friendly and childless catch-ups alike. I always enjoy taking my children there for a light meal, babycino and a much-needed coffee, which I can enjoy in relative peace.
