I remember playing with my dolls as a child; I used to put them in the pram and wheel them across to our neighbour, who would play with me too. Although I was fortunate enough to have four dolls over the years, my favourites still remain; "Robyn" a rather large plastic doll with the outline of hair moulded into the plastic and "Topsie", the African doll that I chose myself from a store shelf.
Dolls will always be a big part of a child's life; they can stand for a friend, a nurturing behaviour as if the child was the parent and if you keep them long into the future, they also represent the change in fashions and accessories throughout the years.
On Sunday 22nd May 2022, at the Fullarton Park Community Centre,
The Australian Plangon (Antique & Modern Doll Collectors') Club Inc. , is presenting its annual . Considered one of South Australia's History Festival events, notification is also advertised on South Australia's History Festival
website.
Visitors will have the opportunity to see dolls from the member's collection of antique, vintage and modern settings as well as modern teddy bears, toys, collectables and memorabilia from the past. I am always in awe of those who have managed to keep their dolls and collectables in such pristine condition and some are still in the original packaging.
Also on the day, visitors will be able to view a special display of five double-sided interactive pull-up banners, entitled "Once Upon A Time", which is on loan from the
History Trust of SA . This display will give you a good understanding of the lives of the children living in South Australia over successive generations in both happy and challenging times.
Do not forget there will be a Trading Table where you can pick up a good bargain or two from the Trash N Treasure Stall including a variety of dolls and collectables. Raffle tickets will be on sale with five great prizes!
All proceeds from the day's entrance fees, raffle and trash n' treasure stall will be donated to the
Genesis Pregnancy Support Inc. who will be supplying the light refreshments at the event. The Genesis Pregnancy Support Inc. is a not-for-profit organisation that provides counselling, support, material assistance for any single unsupported pregnant woman, along with affordable baby gear for those families who are struggling, post-abortion counselling and recovery retreats, education programmes for school students and parents and much more to those facing significant challenges in their life.
