[BREAK]
I used to be one of those people who scoffed at dog owners who spent as much getting their dog's tail trimmed as they did on their own wash, cut and blow-dry. I was also one of those people who teased friends who doggedly endorsed sweet smelling coats and fluffy wagging tails. Worse, I am now one of those people with her tail between her legs.

Like a dog chasing its tail, I've done a complete spin around. Why? Because, after getting a dog of my own, I learned that grooming is not only about looking and smelling nice, it also helps to positively influence the behaviour of dogs.

Just as stroking a dog provides emotional and physical benefits for humans , dogs will also benefit when conditioned to human touch. A dog's natural reaction to being touched is defensive and grooming has been shown to help dogs accept and enjoy handling by humans. In adopting submissive behaviour with the groomer, dogs also learn their place in the human/dog relationship, hopefully with the human being recognised as master! Regular grooming at home will also improve bonding with your dog, establish boundaries and help develop communication signals between dog and owner. Some dogs become so comfortable with grooming, they'll doze off and awake chilled-out and relaxed. I can relate! It's hardly surprising that clean dogs get more cuddles and pats which brings us full circle to the mutual benefit that can be garnered when dogs become comfortable with human touch.

So, having learned all this and having sent notes of apology to those whom I'd scoffed, I can now admit that our dog has a place where she goes every six or so weeks to be groomed. Like me when I'm due a haircut, she's eager to walk through that salon door with the promise of a couple of hours to socialise, play and be pampered. In-between salon visits, she gets a regular brush and bath at home and, as a result, she's affectionate, responsive, trusting and confident with people.

DOGUE Cremorne is for dogs what a day spa is for humans. In addition to Cremorne, DOGUE also has shops in Bondi, Manly and Gymea . Grooming at DOGUE includes combing to remove dirt and knots (this also increases blood circulation), warm bath using all natural, non-allergenic products, coat clip and dry, nail clip and ear clean. The people at DOGUE are exceptional and experienced and our dog's excitement at each visit would have you thinking she'd been in solitary for a year!

In addition to basic grooming services, DOGUE also offers some other "treatments" one would not normally associate with our four-legged friends:

  • For the hairy bottoms: a Brazilian
  • For the well-to-do: a pedicure for each paw
  • For the rough and tumble outdoor type: de-matting
  • For the home alone: day care
  • For the baby of the family: puppy school
  • For the fussy eater: nutritional advice
  • For every dog and master: general information on all dog services within the local area

DOGUE also has a great range of products for sale including basic home grooming needs, tick and flea treatments, food and other tasty treats, accessories and bedding.

And there's more. DOGUE also offers a dogs' retreat in the Southern Highlands of New South Wales where your furry family member can have his or her own vacation when unable to join you on yours. It's a great alternative to boarding kennels and it services the Sydney, Southern Highlands and Canberra areas.

In fact, DOGUE is so great, I'm thinking of sending my kids there for regular grooming, training and vacations, little animals that they are.
