Why would there be a whole festival like Dogfest dedicated to pups and their owners? Well, dog ownership is extremely popular in Australia with a survey conducted about domestic pet ownership in 2021 estimating that the number of dogs that were considered pets in Australia exceeded 6.3 million. This represents an increase from an estimated 5.1 million dogs in 2019.
As well as all the pats and snuggles, pets, including dogs, have shown to provide important value to our health and happiness, offering increased opportunities to exercise, get outside, and socialise. Regular walking or playing with pets can decrease blood pressure, cholesterol levels, and triglyceride levels. Pets can help manage loneliness and depression by giving us companionship.
So whether you have a dog or just want to be around some, head to the 2023 Brisbane Dogfest. Victoria Park is situated at Herston Road, Herston (opposite the Royal Brisbane Hospital) and just 3 kilometres from the Brisbane Central Business District.
Did you also know that Victoria Park is set to undergo a major re-development with plans to create a giant treehouse providing sensational views over the city and the D'Aguilar Range, ropes courses, edible and specialty gardens, elevated walkways, Indigenous history areas and huge expanses of waterways! Watch this space.
