Many people pass by Dog Swamp daily and not realise what an amazing history this little swamp has. It's situated behind Dog Swamp Shopping Centre, off Wanneroo Rd, Yokine.

Does anyone remember the "Land of Make Believe" that used to be on this site? All that is left is Old King Cole's castle which was the entrance of Make Believe Land. There used to be a sign over the main tower welcoming you.

Built by HL Brisbane and Wunderlich brick and roofing tile company in the late 1960's and relocated to Dog Swamp sometime in 1980's, it was here for over 25 years.

There used to be small buildings based on fairytales. There was the three little pigs houses and a stork carrying a baby. Also was the old woman and her shoehouse and even Cinderella's castle with resident guinea pigs.

Now only the castle remains and has fallen into disrepair through vandalism. The swamp has been modified and is now a waterbird refuge.

With grassland and a playground, it is still worth a short visit to take a break from our busy lifestyle.
