For many dog owners, the weekends provide an ideal time for you and your canine friend to combine a leisurely walk and a tasty meal at your local cafe. This being said, it's not always easy to find a cafe that serves great tasting food whilst openly welcoming you and your dog.

Strangely enough some cafes that promote the title of 'dog friendly' will depend entirely on the staff on duty. As a dog owner you may have experienced this yourself. One day staff are cheerfully serving you as you relax at the outside table with your dog nestled comfortably at your feet. The next day (same cafe, different staff) you find yourself tying up your dog at the nearby bench after being told dogs are not welcome (not because your dog has misbehaved but because the cafe staff have suddenly decided to change the rules).

Thankfully, there are still some dog friendly cafes that consistently offer diners friendly service, tasty meals, great coffee and a warm welcoming for both you and your dog.

Canine Comfort located in the eastern suburbs of Brisbane impressed me for a number of reasons. They conveniently combine a pet retail store, coffee shop and do-it-yourself dog wash.

Browse through a selection of dog products then relax outside
with your pooch over a well earned coffee break. A distinct feature of Canine Comfort is the DIY dog wash . Inexpensive and easy to use, their dog washes make it easy to clean your canine. Located on New Cleveland Road, Gumdale, they're open 6 days a week (closed Monday) and public holidays.

Dog owners agree the Reef Point Café in Scarborough is a great place to take your pooch for friendly service and great tasting food. Located on the waterfront, it's a perfect spot to walk your dog before heading to the café to enjoy one of their famed all day breakfasts with a quality Merlo coffee or pot of tea. If you're after a lighter snack, choose from an array of freshly made cakes, scones, muffins and biscuits. Because of the popularity of this place, particularly on weekends, it's wise to call and book ahead of time to avoid missing out on a table. Situated on the Reef Point Esplanade, Scarborough and open 7 days a week.

The Brown Dog Cafe in Woolloongabba is another place where you and your dog can dine together. Meals are affordable, tasty and healthy plus there's a great selection of quality sit-down and take-away coffee. Weekends draw quite a crowd so if you're thinking of trying a Saturday or Sunday morning breakfast (recommended) with your dog in tow, I suggest arriving early as there are only a small selection of outside tables available. Situated on Logan Road, Woolloongabba and open 7 days a week.

If you know of any dog friendly cafes that combine friendly service and great tasting food please share your findings and help other dog owners.
