Dogs in Space Show**
A fashion show with a canine twist! This event will showcase local textile artists and provide an opportunity for you to buy a unique, beautifully crafted functional coat for your pooch in time for winter.
Featuring local artists and local doggos. All money from dog coats sold will go directly to the artists, and all profits from entry on the night will go to Shenton Park Dog Refuge.
There will be hot doggos to go - a vegan sausage sizzle on the night
General entry is $5, or for $10 entry it includes a drink token and the sausage sizzle.
This great function will be on 25th May 2019 from 5.30 pm to 8.30 pm. It will be on at Stackwood, 10 Stack Street, Fremantle.
Some of the artists who will be creating unique dog coats for auction include the following:
Alex Pond from Confetto Co who creates stationery, gifts and party things
Emma Stokes from Daisies Net. Daisy is her favourite dog and the human Emma makes cello noises and kitsch keyboard, singing poem words lOOps and ambient things.
Esther McDowell from Yabini Arts. Here you will find various pieces and creations that Esther has produced.
Leah Louise from Sun & Flower Studios (scroll down to read more about this company).
Mary Adams of Stinky Designs. Stinky Designs is a Fremantle based clothing label, created and operated by Mary Adams. Mary did her fashion degree at ECU Mount Lawley a few years ago, and Stinky Designs was started in the process of finishing studying.
Whilst completing her contemporary fashion degree at ECU, Mary's conceptual ideas came about through her experiences in her life. For example - anxiety or panic attacks would inspire Mary to do work about how this felt or even looked like in Mary's head. Even though this sounds dark, her work was actually quite playful and fun to look at. Her work seems to have had some element of comedy and story-telling.
Mary now has her own label and sells tee shirts and denim jackets. These feature Mary's signature line drawings and paintings, which are all still based on the artist's own life.
Selina Bell is the local art freak based in Fremantle.
Aliza Caruso will also be creating a galactic dog themed earring collection especially for the event. Her beautiful designs will be available for purchase and order on the night.
Neighbourhood Press will also have some select prints available for purchase on the evening. They are graphic designers who have a Fremantle based Risograph printing press. They are a publishing house and creative studio, located in Stackwood.

This show will be produced by Sun & Flower Studios and Confetto Co. Sun & Flower is run by a textile artist who is passionate about "redefining what craft means in a contemporary setting." She believes in taking it easy and making things by hand, using ethically sourced yarns and empowering handmade and DIY as against slave labour and the like.
Through this practice, she wants to contribute to the changing narrative of craft as a form of public interaction and collaboration, rather than a tool which is only limited to the domestic woman's circle.
Sun & Flower Studios is all about stopping wasteful, poor-quality fashion made in unethical conditions. It is inspired by the "buy once, buy well" movement. The items are made so that they are long-lasting, ethically sourced, and really very cute. It could be a stegosaurus coat for your favourite dog or lovingly handcrafted crochet string bags to do your weekly shopping - each item calls attention to the fact that things should be useful, made with love, and as pretty as is possible.
This is a really unusual event and one that should not be missed!
