There is a reason that these winter fireworks, as well as New Years and Australia Day fireworks are held at Docklands.

It is just such a stunning setting. The fireworks are mirrored in the vast expanses of water, the boats with their coloured lights are bobbing around, and the fireworks have the backdrop of towering buildings and impressive bridges.

It ain't Sydney Harbour but the whole scene is still pretty impressive.



This is a great way to start your winter weekends during July and August.

It is a free and a family orientated events and there are lots of restaurants and food vendors to keep you in hot food and drink.

It is also an ideal spot to come with friends. A good idea is to get front row seats at one of the many waterfront restaurants or bars.

But to be honest, there is plenty of room if you just want to bring a hot thermos and sit and enjoy the show from New Quay Promenade. Lots of families do this and there is a really lovely expectant vibe as people wait for the sky to light up.



You can also enjoy entertainment in the New Quay Piazza between 6.30pm and 8.30pm and the fireworks will light up at 7.30pm.

This is a great event to get you out and about on a winter's night. There are so many warming options once you get there. And the fireworks are just gorgeous.

Another option is on one of the Pleasure Boat Cruises, who sail every Friday night in July and August.

It is a novelty being in one of those bobbing boats, while the sky explodes in colour above you.



The cruises include complimentary nibbles and a trip through the Docklands waterways. There is also a bar, where you can purchase drinks.

The boat leaves at 6:15 sharp and return to the dock at Central Pier approximately 7:30pm.

$35 per adult.

Children under 14 are half price, under 5 sail for free. Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
