Djerriwarrh Festival is back! Melton's biggest event, it's all happening on Saturday 10 November 2018 from 11am to 10pm at Melton Recreation Reserve, Reserve Rd, Melton. Perfect timing to sleep in a little, take your time, and prepare for the exciting activities that'll unfold on the day, starting with the Street Parade. However, considering the massive attendance this Festival attracts, I'd head out early and get a good parking spot.
11am Everything that Glitters is the theme of the Parade, so expect to see all that sparkles within the community. The LIon's Club Carnival will also run alongside until 11pm with all your favourite carnival rides and amusments. In fact, it kicks off on Friday 9 Nov around 6pm, operates from 11am-11pm on Festival Day (Sat 10 Nov), and continues on till Sun 6pm, so give them some love.
12-10pm - The International Food Bazaar will cater to your diverse tastes with many delicious, mouth watering treats, including over 20 of the finest food trucks, including FATV Jerky with their homemade flavoured beef jerky that takes you back in time. On the other end of the spectrum, MinnieSweets at the Festival for the very first time. Filled with delicate, delicious looking Wagashi/Japanese sweets, it's authentic, handmade and filled with Japanese style goodness. They tend to run out fast, so be quick.
12-5pm - The Community Showcase Ring features our communities finest talent, along with Sustainable Lane; Get Active Expo, Pet Expo, Community Info Zone, Buskers Tree; Market Stall Village; Intercultural Stage and Tiny Tots Town. Pets will be giving action-packed demonstrations LIVE from the agility ring while you cut loose and get active at the Get Active Expo.
Little ones will be more than catered for at TTT (Tiny Tots Town) with lots of free entertainment for kids ages 1-5, while the Community Hub is where you gather your intel. Hot to trot will be the Market Village, featuring up to 100 market stalls! Plenty enough to please your retail therapy needs from local creatives with their handmade goodies. Find a bargain, something unique and handmade from local artists and designers, and don't forget, Christmas is just around the corner. Sustainable Lane is the road to travel for sustainable goodness, while the Buskers Tree will be pumping soothing, mellow sounds from some incredible solo artists. Enjoy the insanely talented sounds of Tom Tuena amongst some hay bales under the shade of an old tree.
4-7pm - The Youth Stage, need we say more. Come along and enjoy some of the best upcoming artists from the area with a variety of bands, MC's and DJ's. In association with Sound of Future, this event is presented by the Melton Youth Services.
5-10pm is time to be glued to the Main Stage where you'll find some amazing performances at various times as listed on the poster in this article. Gena Rose Bruce is a lover of sad-eyed, bluesy pop with a touch of twang, and her intoxicating and heartfelt live performance will leave you full of longing. Bad Pony is simply unstoppable with many national tours and international showcases under their belt. It's hard to decipher whether it's heritage, hope or insanity that fuels them. Sydney's swaggering indie rock stalwarts, you don't want to miss them.
Maddy Jane, a singer/songwriter from Hobart, with indie/pop/rock vibes. She's just put out a new song The Other Day, which is out now! You might remember her opening up for One Direction's Harry Styles. 7.30pm heralds the Festival Bonfire, Melton's own version of Burning Man, burning down yet another magnificent structure. The Superjesus will be stopping in, having embarked on a national tour to celebrate the 20th anniversary of their iconic album 'Sumo' and will, in fact, be giving a performance the night before at Mt Evelyn. Catch them there for a full performance night.
9.15 - The Pierce Brothers, Festival favourites, will be closing the show before theFireworks Finale at 10pm. These twin brothers are multi-instrumentalists and have been shaking dance floors and selling out rooms across UK, Europe, Canada, USA & their native Australia with their unique brand of folk music, taking it from busking on the streets of Melbourne to the world.
