With Strawberry season almost upon us, why not learn to grow your own patch of goodness? There is nothing so wonderful as watching your own little flowers turn into ripe, delicious treats. According to Strawberry growing expert, Peter Kearney, April is the time to plant your runners (brand new plantlets).
Unfortunately, commercially grown strawberries are packed with chemicals in order to fatten them up - all the more reason to grow your own. On April 21st, Peter is offering an afternoon course @ City Food Growers where you can learn all about growing the perfect strawberry crop. How much sun? What do they like to eat? How to keep pests at bay? Best time to plant? Best time to harvest?
Peter's course includes notes, delicious afternoon tea and no less than 30 "Festival Variety" runners. Each plant produces about 3-5 punnets of strawberries, so you will be set for the season, with plenty still left over for DIY Strawberry Jam.
