The biggest multicultural event in Western Australia

The Indian Society of WA (ISWA) proudly presents Diwali Mela The Festival of Lights on 3 & Nov 2018 at Claremont Showground from 3pm to 9:30 pm. Celebrate 50 years of Indian culture in festivity in Perth.

Come along with your friends and family and experience India through delicious food, traditional music, crafts and cultural displays in a family-friendly carnival atmosphere.

Kicking off at 3pm, this spectacular cultural celebration can be enjoyed by all communities. Over two days, Claremont Showground will be transformed into a hub of activity with bustling market stalls offering quality arts and crafts, henna tattoos and traditional Indian dresses. There will also be informative displays showcasing local services such as banking and mortgage services, spiritual services and Indian small entrepreneurs.

Meanwhile, the food stalls and food trucks will be serving up all your favourite mouth-watering delicacies and snacks till late. Enjoy an aromatic curry with delicious warm bread, followed by delectable sweet treats and a hot cup of chai at dusk.

The continuous stage performances will be another event highlight with Talent Hunt, Indian classical, folk and Bollywood dances, and a variety of entertainment by Indian and multicultural artists.

Adding to the vibrant community atmosphere are rangoli, painting and art exhibitions and the kids don't miss out either with rides and attractions designed for all ages including a camel ride, a variety of bouncy castles and their favourite fairground rides, including cup and saucer.

Then at sunset, organisers promise their biggest fireworks display yet, so be ready at 8.30pm and marvel as multi-coloured fireworks and festive lights colour the night sky.

This year's event is expected to attract over 3000 visitors, so get your friends and family together and enjoy all that Diwali Mela 2018 has to offer. There is no better way to celebrate the Festival of Lights.

The event is alcohol and smoke-free and tickets are now on sale.

Purchase a 1 Day Pass for $8 or Weekend Pass for $10. Secure your ticket at

Entry is FREE for children under 10 years, senior citizens and those who are wheelchair assisted.

Avoid traffic and parking hassles by taking public transport. During Diwali Mela, train services on the Fremantle Line will stop at the Showground Station from 45 minutes prior to open and 45 minutes after the event closes. Outside of those times, the Claremont Showground is a short walk from the Claremont Station.

Bus numbers 23, 24, 25, 27, 28, 98/99 (circle route), 102, 103 and 107 all stop close by.

Groups of up to seven people (two adults and five children or two adults and five concession fares) can travel to and from the Claremont Showground on a FamilyRider ticket which allows unlimited system-wide travel.

FamilyRider fares offer great value for money, being a cheaper option even for a two-section journey, and you save the hassle of buying a return ticket at the end of your day. Savings can even be made by smaller groups. To find out the best option for your family, speak to friendly station staff, call the Transperth Info Line on 13 62 13 or visit

If you are driving, Claremont Showground offers parking at reasonable cost. Enter via Gate Gate 8 (Ashton Avenue) or Gate 5 (Graylands Road) where parking attendants and signage will guide you. Parking is $5 per vehicle collected by Claremont Showground authorities.
