Diwali or Deepavali means 'row of lamps'. This festival of lights is a much coveted Hindu festival which dates back to the ancient times. Diwali represents the victory of good over evil and eliminating inner darkness with light. Traditionally, Diwali is celebrated by donning new clothes, uniting with family and friends, sharing good food and lots of sweets and lighting small clay lamps and fireworks.

Despite being a Hindu festival, Diwali transcends all races and religions and is largely a community festival which aims at fostering good relationships amongst families, friends, neighbours and the community. This year, Diwali celebrations will be bigger and better than ever. Melbourne is hosting 4 events to commemorate Diwali with great grandeur.
