Diva Wars is the latest production by acclaimed writer/director/actor Wayne Tunks and is currently being performed at the New Theatre, Newtown - as part of the Sydney Fringe Festival 2017.

It features seven gay guys, representing the biggest pop diva's, each absolutely certain, their pop queen is the greatest of all time, leading to a tit-for-tat slapfest and all-out diva war.

Are you on team Britney, Beyoncé, Madonna, Mariah, Gaga, Cher or Australia's own Kylie? Each character has their own captivating story about how their diva 'spoke' to them, helped them through a difficult time of heartbreak, acceptance or rejection. It was music that healed and music that helped bring meaning back into their lives.

There's an underlying story of bar rivalry and relationships which adds depth but at its core, Diva Wars is a play about acceptance, love, and fun-facts about your favourite pop-stars.

Regardless of which pop-star you prefer, everyone should find something to relate and laugh along to. There was little music used in the play because the characters themselves were more ostentatious and fabulous than the loudest of bangers by any pop queen.

From Mason whose obsession with Lady Gaga brought him and his dad closer, to Andre and his fabulous wardrobe, inspired by Mariah Carey to Jamal, whose rejection by his father was helped out by Beyoncé. It's easy to see how music gets everyone through tough times.

What made Diva Wars an outstanding night of entertainment was its snappy, quick-witted script, punchy, realistic characters (something Wayne always does exceptionally well) and its heartfelt stories.

It has a short run during Fringe Fest, catch it before it's gone. Also, pay attention to all the facts and figures spurted out like who sold the most albums ever (Madonna) or who has the highest vocal range (Mariah Carey) because you will be quizzed on it!

Diva Wars will be loved by anyone who's ever been healed by the powerful ballads of pop divas - which realistically, hasn't everyone?
