Distant Kisses by internationally-recognised artist Huei Yin Wong will be exhibiting at City Library Gallery, 253-265 Flinders Lane, Melbourne from 4-25 August 2022 with Opening NIght held on Thursday 4 August 2022 from 6-7.30pm. This is the artist's first solo exhibition and probably the final Petri dish artwork. Part photography and part audio experience, Distant Kisses is about longing for intimacy and how that feeling connected us through one of the world's longest and strictest lockdowns. The global pandemic was declared by the WHO on 11 March 2020. Less than three weeks later, on 29 March, Tinder users swiped a record-breaking 3 billion times in 24 hours. This exhibition looks at how the pandemic has shaped the way we look for love. The exhibition sits at the intersection of art and science, with an up-close look at the vibrant microbiota hidden in the kisses of single Melburnians, inspired by the unexplored galaxy within each and every one of us. Huei Yin Wong has returned to examine modern life through the lens of a high-powered microscope once more, with her sophomore photomicrographic project. "Before the pandemic, a kiss with a stranger was an exhilarating prospect, but COVID-19 changed everything." she explains, "Distant Kisses is an exploration of intimacy in our socially-distanced world, and just how beautiful loneliness can be".
