From 12 August through to 23 August, Westfield Hurstville at the corner of Cross Street and Park Road, Hurstville, will be unveiling Sea-stainable Hurstville. With a focus on sustainability, this new exhibition will transform the city of Hurstville with a dynamic fusion of art installations, community workshops and roaming live entertainment (jellyfish stilt walkers) as part of the NSW Government's CBDs Revitalisation Program.

Staged over 12 nights, this event has been developed to reflect Sydney's local environment and will offer an incredible array of art installations made from recycled materials, including a 10.5m lighthouse made from upcycled sails, and a Steampunk-esque illuminated octopus. It aims to deliver joy and inspiration to the community to take a more active role in protecting and preserving the local river systems. It's designed to focus attention on the wellbeing of the Georges River System, Hurstville's largest urban waterway.

Enjoy the exhibition day or night at this fantastic celebration of commitment to the environment and the Georges River waterway in a way that engages, inspires and educates. You could strut your stuff on a kinetic light up dance floor to generate electricity or enjoy workshops designed to educate the community on ocean sustainability.

Join the Community Art Hub Workshop and customise recycled plastic materials. These will be included in a community evolving art piece of The Humpback Whale, the end result being a one-of-a-kind community art piece that visually tells the story of ocean sustainability. The Community Art Workshop with artist Rox De Luca will teach you how to create 'threads' that she features in her sculptures. Rox collects single-use recyclable materials she finds on her walks along local beaches and waterways. Her workshop explores colour, texture, materials and showcases the joy of construction while reflecting upon the serious global issue of plastic waste. Follow the links for more details or you can check it out here. There are retailers making a conscience change at Westfield and you can find them here. Every little bit helps our planet, and if we all continue to choose more sustainable options, it can only drive the direction of buying and selling towards more environmentally friendly practices.
