Find out why sailors fall in love with the sea
Have you ever thought would love to go sailing but didn't know how to go about it? Are you under the impression that sailing is a really difficult and expensive sport and unless you know someone with a boat it's all too hard? Well here's an opportunity to try sailing made easy and it's free. Everyone is welcome and all you need to do is turn up.
On Sunday October 27th Discover Sailing Day sees many sailing clubs around Australia opening their doors for would-be sailors to come and visit and go for a sail. The clubs provide the boats, safety equipment and the expertise. You just have to come along in clothes and shoes that you don't mind getting wet plus a hat and sunscreen. To find the participating club closest to you and to register see this page. For more detailed information on what (and what not) to wear and how it all works click here.
If you can't make the 27th of October, there are more Discover Sailing Days being held at various sailing clubs around the state over the Spring and Summer, click here for a list of dates and participating clubs.
Sailing is great sport for all age groups with children being able to sail from 5 years old if accompanied by a parent or guardian. It's also a sport and recreation you can continue for a lifetime. So bring along your family, friends, colleagues, anyone who'd like to experience what it's like to be out on the water under sail. Or come on your own, you'll soon discover that there's a very social side to the sport and most sailors love to have a chat.
To help you feel comfortable on the day, clubs participating in Discover Sailing Days have a Discover Sailing Host to welcome you. They can answer any questions you might have and explain how the day's activities will be run. You can look around the club, go out for a sail with an experienced sailor and find out about available sailing programs and courses. You should allow at least one and a half to two hours for your visit if you're keen to get out on the water.
The sun is back and it's a great time to get out on the water so why not take this opportunity to give sailing a try.
